This may be the cause for the smell that is permeating throughout the home, and some will use bleach and other harsh agents to clean the home. These can be dangerous to be exposed to and harmful to your health, and you only have to read the label on the packaging to see what effects exposure to the cleaning agents can have on your health and well-being.

Removing Odors From Furniture

March 22, 2016

livingroom-001If you’ve had your furniture for any length of time, chances are that odors have begun to settle into the fibers of it. This is especially true if you have pets or small children who tend to spill liquids and other items on your furniture.

At-home Cleaning Methods

Although there are some at-home methods for removing odors from furniture, they often aren’t quite as effective as hiring a professional odor removal service to do the job for you. Most at-home solutions only mask the odors for a short period of time, after which they return. Instead of repeating this viscous cycle of at-home cleaning, it’s better to go about removing odors from furniture permanently the first time.

Purchasing New Furniture

Of course, some people simply go out and purchase new furniture when theirs becomes laden with heavy odors, but purchasing brand new furniture is much more expensive than simply investing in a professional cleaning service that’s experienced with removing odors from furniture. Plus, if you are particularly fond your furniture, having a professional cleaning service remove the odors for you can restore your favored pieces to their previous glory so that they feel and smell brand new again, which makes it so that you can enjoy them for years to come.

Trained Technicians

Perhaps the most advantageous aspect about investing in professional cleaning services is that the technicians who work for such companies are specially trained in removing stubborn, unpleasant odors that homeowners often can’t remove themselves with common over-the-counter cleansing agents. Not only do technicians have the skills and training to appropriately locate and eliminate the source of the foulest of odors, but they also have the best tools and resources at their disposal to blast away stubborn stains and smells. For instance, every type of fabric and fiber has its own physical properties that affect the type of cleansing agent that can successfully be used on it rid it of odors. The technicians who work for professional cleaning services have the knowledge to discern what type of fabric they’re dealing with as well as the type of cleansing agent that should be used on it. Additionally, after treating the furniture, they also have products that can permanently seal the furniture and trap any lingering odors that remain.

If you’re dealing with foul odors on your furniture, you might want to spare yourself the hassle and frustration of buying new furniture or attempting to get rid of the smell on your own only to have it keep coming back. Instead, go ahead and invest in a professional odor removal service to get the job over and done with once and for all.

Apartment Odor Removal

March 18, 2016

apartmentsIf you have had odors in your apartment, you know that these smells could stink up your place for long periods of time. While some odors are stronger than others, you don’t want to have any in your apartment. There are many reasons why your apartment could be filled with an unpleasant smell, such as pets, cigarette smoke, cooking, and more. Here are some apartment odor removal tips that you can use.

Airing it all Out

Out of all the odors, none are as powerful as cigarette smoke. If your apartment has become a smoky place, you will need to use these tips to get the cigarette odor out. The quickest way to remove this type of smell from your apartment is to air the place out. Simply open all of the windows for at least 24 hours. If this is not an option, keep the windows open for as long as you can, and use an air purifier to help boost your effort.

Baking Soda to the Rescue

When it pertains to pet odor, many people use baking soda to remove the smell of the animals, especially pet urine. You will want to use baking soda on furniture and carpets that have compatible fabric; this ensures that you do not ruin your furniture or rugs. Simply sprinkle the baking soda on the areas where your pet has played or shed, and vacuum over the baking soda.

If you are cleaning up pet urine, wipe that area quickly using a soapy towel, and then sprinkle baking soda over the spot. After you have let the wet area dry, pat it with a dry towel. Vacuum this area after it is completely dry. This apartment odor removal trick will get the job done!

Treating the Surfaces

Some cooking smells are wonderful, and then there are other cooking odors that your nose will want you to remove immediately. Sometimes you will be unable to find the area where the smell is coming from, so you will need to clean the kitchen thoroughly.

These apartment odor removal methods will help you get rid of those nasty cooking smells:

• Thoroughly wipe down all of your cabinets, stove tops, and the entire kitchen floor with soap and water.

• Fill up a pan with part water and part vinegar (add lemon for a citrus smell) and heat it on the stove. Allow the water to simmer for a few hours to remove the cooking odor. Every few hours, you will need to replenish the water and vinegar. The vinegar helps to neutralize the odors in the home and eventually removes them from the air within the apartment.

• Wipe down the inside of the stove and the stove tops using dish detergent. Be sure to use the dish detergent to wipe the vents above the stove as well, especially if you have cooked fried food. This helps to remove the grease and bits of food that leave a strong odor when not removed.

• Open all of the windows to let the air circulate throughout out your apartment freely.

Bowl Method

This is another trick to use when removing various odors from your apartment. Grab a bowl and fill it up with coffee grounds. You can use any type of coffee grounds for this trick. Place the bowl in the area of the apartment where the odor is strong. Leave the bowl in that room for a few days. If there are multiple rooms with a nasty odor, you can place one bowl in each room. This option is affordable and earth-friendly.

You should act quickly to get these nasty smells out of your apartment. These tips are simple and have proven results. Your nose will thank you later!

Cigarette Smell Removal

March 15, 2016

cigarrette3No matter whether you’re a landlord who had a tenant who smoked and you now need to rid the apartment of the smell before you can release it or you’re a homeowner who recently had a smoker in the family or used to smoke yourself, there’s no doubt that getting rid of the smell of cigarettes can be a challenging debacle to undertake. Cigarette smell removal is probably one of the most difficult cleaning tasks, and part of this is because the nicotine in cigarettes tends to seep into everything that it’s exposed to. Fortunately, though, you’re not stuck with the smell forever because there are, in fact, cigarette smell removal techniques that you can employ to get your space smelling clean and fresh again.

1. The first step is to neutralize the odor. One way to do this is to fix small bowls with a mixture of ammonia and vinegar, and then place them in places where the cigarette smell is the most potent. This alone won’t get rid of the odor, though. It will only serve to neutralize them and prepare you for the next step.

2. The next step in cigarette smell removal consists of thoroughly cleaning any carpeting. Carpets tend to trap more smoke than any other areas in the house, so make sure to use a granulated carpet cleaner as well as carpet shampoo with a steam cleaner to thoroughly clean them.

3. Next, wash the walls with a gentle, all-purpose detergent. Believe it or not, the smell of smoke can get onto the walls, but make sure you only wash the walls with a thin layer of water and detergent so that you don’t saturate the paint and damage the drywall underneath.

4. If washing the walls alone isn’t enough to rid the walls of the smells, then apply a fresh coat of paint. If nicotine has seeped so far into the existing paint that washing cannot fully rid it of the smell, the best solutions is to apply a fresh coat that will trap any odors beneath it.

5. Finally, wash or dry any linens, draperies, rugs, throw pillows and any other items that contain cloth. Even after all steps 1 through 4 have been completed, if any of these cloth-like or other porous accessories are left unwashed, they too can contribute to a smoky smell.

By following the cigarette smell removal steps above, you can help rid your home or apartment of the distasteful smell of cigarettes.

Need to remove cigarette smell from apartment?

March 8, 2016

cigarrette4Perhaps you have just moved into an apartment that was previously owned by a person who smokes. If this is the case, you will need to do everything you can to remove cigarette smell from apartment. Fortunately, there are many ways you can go about doing this. Here are some of the most effective methods that you can try.

1. Air out the apartment

The first thing you will need to do is open all of the windows and doors. This will allow all of the smoky air to leave the apartment so it will not linger. Keep them open for a long time. Simply opening them for a few minutes will not be adequate. You can also use electric fans to blow the air out of your apartment.

2. Clean everything

The next thing you need to do to remove cigarette smell from apartment is to give your apartment a thorough cleaning. You can do this by using a solution that can be made by mixing together 1/2 cup of baking soda, two cups of warm water and one cup of white vinegar. Scrub all of your hard surfaces with this solution by using a sponge. This includes your kitchen counters and walls. You can then dry the solution by using a fan.

3. Repaint your apartment

You will now need to completely repaint all of your ceilings and walls. This will especially be the case if they have become stained from the constant exposure to cigarette smoke. You will need to wash your ceilings and walls prior to beginning the painting process. This is because the residue from cigarette smoke will stick to any surface it is exposed to. The paint will not stick properly if you fail to wash these surfaces thoroughly.

4. Baking soda

A very helpful item you can use to remove cigarette smell from apartment is baking soda. You can drop some baking soda on couches, recliners, beds or any other furniture made from cloth that you have in your apartment. Rub it in so it penetrates deeply into the fibers of the cloth and other materials. Keep it on the furniture during the night. You can then use a vacuum to remove it when you wake up.

5. A steam cleaning

More persistent smells can be removed with the use of a steam cleaning machine. There are many companies that rent these machines if you do not already own one.

If you have tried the steps above and are still unable to remove the odors then consider hiring a professional Odor Removal Specialists to help.

Curry Odor Removal

February 29, 2016

curry2Getting rid of a curry smell from the home can be difficult if you do not know how to proceed. Fortunately, however, curry odor removal does not need to be difficult. By following the right instructions and taking care to be thorough, you can add an air of freshness to just about any environment. Try one or all of the following curry odor removal solutions, and see which one provides your home with the best results.

Always begin by changing all of the air filters in the home. Chances are that your air filters are beginning to show signs of age, and when they start to get clogged up from months of use, they begin to work less efficiently, resulting in dirtier indoor air. Changing all of the indoor air filters can not only help with curry odor removal, but also with general indoor air quality. Additionally, it is recommended for homeowners to remove their curtains and other types of textured furniture to help get the particles out.

If you do not want to remove your surfaces, one of the best ways to keep them clean is to simply wash the surfaces clean with a water and vinegar solution. For optimal curry odor removal, use one cup of water to two tablespoons of vinegar. Spray this solution around the home’s walls and pay attention to the kitchen, where the cooking scent is strongest. In addition to getting the walls, make sure that you spray around the stove and any sections where curry vapors may hide. Air dry when done.

You can always purchase a microbial agent as well. This is one of the most efficient ways to keep your property clean, as mixing the microbial agents with equal parts water can result in a powerful cleaning solution for curry odor removal. The live bacteria actively eats odors, resulting in a much cleaner environment. Spray this solution against everything in the house, including the carpets, ceilings and regular walls.

Finally, in a large pot of boiling water, add approximately three cups of white vinegar, six sticks of cinnamon and one cup of water. Let this mixture come to a boil before turning the heat down to allow to simmer. Leave this solution to simmer for about four hours, and the vinegar vapors will chase away the stronger curry elements in the air, resulting in a fresher and cleaner overall home environment.

If none of those solutions get the job done then call Odorsweep for our 100% Curry Odor Removal guarantee.

7 Ways to Remove Dog Odors

August 18, 2014

We love our dogs but sometimes they can bring some pretty nasty odors into our homes.  To remove the odor we need to start with the dog.  Just attacking the odors is like spinning your wheels.

  1. First you need to find the root cause of your dog’s odor. Did they roll in feces or some other decaying material to mask their own smell. It is natural behavior for dogs to try and mask their smell (think camouflage for smell).
  2. Wash your dog with dog shampoo (conditioner if dog’s coat demands).  Search for a shampoo formulated to remove dog odors rather than simply trying perfume them up. If your dog has a skin condition, try a vet approved medicated shampoo.
  3. Now check the ears.  Infected ears can be a cause of poor smell. Take a few minutes and clean the ears.  You can purchase ear cleaning solutions at any pet store.
  4. Bad breath.  Oral hygiene is very important to reduce dog odor.  Bad teeth = Bad breath.  Just think what your mouth would smell like if you did not brush your teeth for months (ugh).  Make sure to brush at least once every two weeks (minimum).
  5. Take a look to your dog’s diet.  If your is eating unhealthy foods it is only natural that they might smell as well.  Try switching to a natural/organic brand of dog food.  They will smell better and in all likelihood feel better as well.
  6. Time to tackle that bedding.  Toss everything that can survive a washing machine into the wash.  Wash on cold water and try to reduce the use of fabric softeners, as they may irritate your dog’s skin. If you need a little extra punch try adding some apple cider vinegar (1/2 added to wash).
  7. Now sprinkle baking soda thoroughly on your dog’s fur after a bath (when dry).  Baking soda is great for absorbing odors and does not add any additional smells to your home or their bedding.  Lightly brush off the excess or your will find a trail of baking soda everywhere your dog wanders in your home.

  1. Change all the air filters. Remove and discard curtains and other upholstered furniture.

Keep the windows open to let the house air-dry.
  3. Buy ‘Live Microbial Agent’ sold at most of the hardware stores. Prepare a spray with equal amount of water. The Microbial agents have a live bacteria that eats odors. Spray the entire house with the live microbial agent (ceilings, walls, carpets, furniture and equipments). Keep the windows open to let the house air-dry for 2 days. Repeat this process
  4. In a pot add 3 cups of white vinegar, one cup of water and 6 sticks of Cinnamon. Let it come to a boil. Turn down heat to a simmer.
